Zurbarán Inspired Concert in New York
31 January 2018
A concert inspired by the series of paintings Jacob and His Twelve Sons, by Francisco de Zurbarán, is due to take place in New York in March.
New York chorus and orchestra company Voices of Ascension, under the musical direction of Dennis Keene, will perform a live concert, From Spain’s Golden Age and Beyond on Tuesday, 13 March at 7:30pm at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Voices of Ascension presents a programme anchored by Spanish Renaissance masters Cristobal de Morales, Francisco Guerrero, Alonso Lobo, Roque Ceruti, Tomas Luis de Victoria, Domenico Scarlatti, and George Frideric Handel’s Joseph and His Brethren. The concert will take place at Madison Avenue Presbyterian, just a few streets away from The Frick Collection, where the paintings Jacob and His Twelve Sons are on display from 31 January to 22 April 2018.
The concert features performances from Amanda Forsythe, Soprano Soloist; Aya Hamada, Harpsichord; and Siman Chung, Countertenor. Tickets are available here.
The Zurbarán paintings have hung in Auckland Castle for 250 years and are currently on an unprecedented tour of America while the Castle is closed for conservation works.
The paintings will return to Auckland Castle ahead of its reopening on 1 December 2018.
