Road Re-Opens To Traffic
28 November 2016
Parts of Bishop Auckland Market Place have re-opened to traffic, as works outside Auckland Castle enter another key phase.
The road realignment, being carried out by Durham County Council, is designed to offer a pedestrian friendly approach to the Bishop’s Palace when it reopens in May 2018, while enhancing the regeneration of the Market Place undertaken in 2011.
A temporary, one-way system has now been installed, offering vehicular access to the Market Place from Durham Road via Castle Chare and North Bondgate, for the first time since work began.
Anyone wanting to know more about the roadworks, which are expected to be completed in 2017, can visit www.durham.gov.uk/bishopworks or contact the Council’s Technical Services Team on 03000 262726.
