Prestigious Award for Marilyn
28 September 2016
One of Auckland Castle’s Trust’s dedicated volunteers has been given a prestigious national award in recognition of her work helping young people.
Marilyn Weerasinghe, from Bishop Auckland, was named North East winner of the Marsh Award for Museum Learning at a glittering ceremony in London.
The prestigious awards, held in partnership between The British Museum and the Marsh Christian Trust, are designed to recognise volunteers who work directly with museum visitors and devote their lives to improving the world today, and in the future.
Retiree Marilyn, who worked as specialist teacher for more than 27 years, was able to claim the regional title thanks to her dedicated work with the Trust and, in particular, its Heritage Hunters project designed for young people in hard to reach communities.
