Make History and Craft a Coin in Bishop Auckland
14 February 2019
History-lovers can get arty this spring, harnessing the power of County Durham’s historic Prince Bishops to put their spin on a personalised coin.
Tower Arts: Mint Print art workshops will run over seven Saturdays from 2 March to 13 April.
At the sessions, visitors can have a go at printmaking and design their own medieval coin with artist Suzie Devey.
Everyone taking part can learn more about these medieval men, creating a coin design with emblems of a Prince Bishop or a King on one side, an animal design on the other. Each coin design can also be embellished with significant initials and dates as well as a choice of decorative borders.
Visitors can print and take home their finished artworks at the end of each session, and artist, Suzie Devey, will also transform the designs into a collaborative artwork entitled Treasure Trove which will go on display in Auckland Tower to coincide with Bishop Auckland Food Festival on Saturday, 13 April and Sunday, 14 April 2019.
Tower Arts: Mint Print sessions will take place from 11am to 3pm on a drop-in basis. For more information click here.
