Learning Spaces

Learning Spaces

We have a range of learning spaces across the Auckland Project enabling us to deliver programmes for schools, families, adults and community groups.

Mining Art Gallery

The Mining Art Learning Room provides a friendly, homely space just off the largest gallery in the building on the first floor. It’s a great place for family learning activities, teacher meetings, small school sessions (up to 15 pupils), and more.

This art workshop is an open plan space within No.42, the gallery, shop and display space in the Market Place. We host regular heritage skills workshops here, as well as a programme of drop in activities.

Out in the heart of the community at Woodhouse Close allotments, this site provides a venue for children and adults from informal learning and community groups to get hands-on with horticulture.

Coming in 2019: Auckland Castle

Our Learning Centre in the 600 year old Scotland Wing of the castle will provide an inspiring place to discover the stories of the Prince Bishops of Durham, their power and influence, as well as sessions connected to the forthcoming Faith Museum. With two classrooms and a school lunchroom, the Learning Centre will provide valuable facilities in the watt of the bishop’s palace. Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Coming in 2019: Spanish Gallery

Carved out of the old safe room where money was stored in the Backhouse Bank building which will become part of the new Spanish Gallery, the Learning Room will enable children and adults to have a space to discover Spanish and Latin American culture.
