Taking place every Saturday from 2 March to 13 April 2019, 11am – 3pm
Centuries ago, the Prince Bishops of Durham ruled much of the North and even had the power to mint their own coins. Now, you too have the chance to create your own currency, with a series of events in the Bishops’ ‘hometown.’
Over the course of six Saturdays (2, 9, 16, 23, 30 March, 6 April and 13 April), artist Suzie Devey will be in Bishop Auckland, County Durham helping visitors create their own coins using printmaking techniques.
All you have to do is call in between 11am and 3pm on the selected dates, choose which Bishop, King or animal will act as your figurehead and add a word or date that is special to you.
Suzie will then cast your design into clay and create a personalised coin to go on public display in the programme’s finale on Saturday, April 13.
