In advance of the redevelopment of the gardens at Auckland Castle, The Auckland Project is hosting Durham University Archaeology Department excavations to discover more about the historical layout of the gardens and the castle of the medieval Prince Bishops.

Visitors to the Deer Park and those on our Behind the Scenes tours will have the chance to drop in and come right up to the excavation trenches and watch archaeologists from Durham University peel back the centuries at the former home of the powerful Prince Bishops of Durham.

Visitors are welcome to come and see what is being uncovered at any time between 10am and 4pm (Monday-Friday). Free tours of the archaeology will run daily at 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30 (Monday-Friday).

For a more activity driven experience please see our Family Weekend Archaeology Activities.

Tours will run until Saturday, 23 June 2018.
